In six days I will be waking up at 3:30 am, triple-checking to ensure I have packed plenty of bug spray and sunscreen, and trekking to the airport in preparation for our class trip to Grenada. While I will certainly be tired that morning, I know I will anxiously be awaiting the moment we will step foot in Grenada, meet the people with whom we will be collaborating, and start working on our projects. I have never studied abroad, so this is an incredible opportunity for me to apply the knowledge I’ve learned in the Master of Public Health program to a real world situation. I have no doubt that this experience will be the most exciting and rewarding component to my Masters program, and I know that I will learn invaluable lessons that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I cannot wait!
My group is the “Drug Group,” meaning that we will be working with the Ministry of Education and the Drug Secretariat to update Grenada’s current National School Policy on Drug and Alcohol. I am excited to work on this project because I know that this policy will benefit the Grenadian children’s education and health.
Aside from our projects, I am also really looking forward to the spices and the organic chocolate we have heard about. I will be sure to pack extra money for those tasty souvenirs. 🙂
More to come after our arrival!
